Sonia Bartoli

Born, brought up and educated in Italy, Sonia currently resides in Alexandria, VA (USA), and is a full-time linguist with over 25 years of experience. With a passion for language, life sciences, and medical technology, she specializes in medical translation and pursues continuous education by reading specialized literature and keeping abreast of the latest surgical innovations, with special focus on minimally invasive interventional devices and procedures. She translates, edits and proofreads medical device instructions for use, clinical trial documents (clinical study protocols, informed consent forms, health outcomes questionnaires), patient/clinician information booklets, operator’s manuals for laboratory equipment, training materials (brochures and e-learning courses), and various marketing texts. She enjoys a highly productive collaborative relationship with the other members of the team, and leads the marketing efforts behind the Italian Language Consulting initiative.

Roberto Crivello

Roberto was born and raised in Palermo (Italy), where he attained a Master’s Degree in Electronic Engineering and the Professional Engineer certification. Upon moving to the United States 26 years ago, he pursued a Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Engineering at the University of Utah. Roberto has worked as an R&D engineer both in Italy and in the United States. Roberto has been a full-time freelance linguist for 21 years, translating a wide range of technical documents and technical marketing materials —including brochures, catalogs, hardware documentation, company newsletters, patents, installation/operation manuals, press releases, web sites, and white papers— in many technical fields, such as automotive, engines, heavy machinery and vehicles, hydraulic systems, machine tools, electronic instruments, motors, networking, optical instruments, pumps, turbines, uninterruptible power supplies, and web offset press machines. Roberto has published several articles on terminology and style in technical translation in the ATA Chronicle. He also authored two training modules for a course in technical translation into Italian on behalf of ICoN (Italian Culture on the Net): in partnership with three Italian universities, ICoN offers a Master in Translation modeled after the European Master’s in Translation. Roberto was hand-picked by IcoN, from a pool of university professors specializing in translation and world-class professional translators, as the professional most suited to write about the various aspects of technical translation into Italian. Roberto is a member of the American Translators Association (ATA), is certified from English into Italian, and chairs the ATA Italian graders workgroup for the English to Italian certification exam. He has been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE ) since 1987 and is a Senior Member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC). He makes regular annual trips to Italy to maintain his cultural ties and language proficiency.

Marinella Fioretto

A freelance translator since 1989, Marinella is a member of the Bergamo Chamber of Commerce (Italy) and acts as an expert consultant for English-Italian translations; she is also an auxiliary member of the A.I.T.I. (Italian Association of Translators and Interpreters), with vast experience in the translation of technical texts, particularly in the medical and IT fields. In 1994 Marinella was accepted as an external translator of both English and Spanish to Italian for the External Translation Units of the European Parliament and the European Commission. She has collaborated for many years with Yamaha Motor Italy in the translation of technical and marketing documentation, with the computer science publication PC Magazine and with the French company Dassault Systemes – a world leader in the production of PLM, CAD and 3D software. At present, Marinella works mainly on translations for the medical sector (cardiology, neurology, general and specialized surgery, radiology, nuclear medicine, orthopedics, clinical studies, market research for the pharmaceutical sector and medical information sites). Marinella is a lover of figurative art and photography, and has taken part in the translation and editing of several catalogues for art exhibitions. An expert in terminology, she has worked with several teams of translators in the creation of technical and specialized dictionaries (ed. Sansoni, Elsevier, etc.)

Daniela O'Donnell

Daniela O’Donnell was born and raised in the beautiful Veneto region —home of the majestic Dolomites, the rolling hills where the Prosecco vines grow, and the sandy beaches of the Adriatic Sea— one of the many diverse cultural cradles of Italy that helped shape her love for Art, History, and Language. After traveling the world for many years as the wife of an American Army officer, she now resides with her husband in Northern Virginia but makes regular annual trips to Italy to maintain her cultural ties and language proficiency. She has a Liberal Arts degree (University of Padua, Italy) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies (Chadron State, USA). A translator since 1985, Member of American Translators Association since 1989 and Certified Translator, she has a vast experience translating, editing and proofreading English to Italian documents, particularly in the fields related to Medicine/Dentistry (IFUs, Informed Consents, User Manuals), Business/Marketing (Sales Brochures, Fashion Catalogues, Cosmetics, Codes of Business Conduct, Surveys, Employee Training and Development, Historical Videos, Museum Brochures),  and Government/Military (Affidavits, Indictments, Personal Protective Equipment). 

Elisabetta Starmack

Freelance translator since 1990, certified in 1992 by The American Translators Association for translations from English into Italian, Elisabetta is a native Italian speaker with translation experience working both in Italy (1985-1990, in-house) and the United States. Currently a resident of Cincinnati, OH (USA), Elisabetta has extensive experience in translating user/technical manuals for medical and surgical equipment, diabetes care and equipment, medical promotional materials, training materials for medical reps, patient educational and instructional booklets, MSDSs. Elisabetta also worked as an Adjunct Instructor of Italian Language at the University of Cincinnati from 2009 to 2012.

Milena Vitali-Charewicz

Born, raised and educated in Italy, Milena is now based in Amesbury, MA (USA), where she lives with her husband and son. Milena moved to the United States after working as an in-house technical translator for a multinational corporation in Italy for five years. She began freelancing in 2001 and specializes in the areas of medical devices, healthcare, clinical trials, pharmaceuticals, and computer software. She has extensive experience with performing software linguistic testing sessions at customers’ sites and voice-overs. She holds a translation degree from Milan’s Civica Scuola Interpreti e Traduttori and is certified by the American Translators Association for English into Italian. She is also a member of the New England Translators Association and serves on its annual conference committee.
